Marsha & Kevin ~ Rustic, vintage Oak Knoll

Oak Knoll Ranch in Springtown captured the vintage, rustic & country feel that Marsha & Kevin were searching for.  Marsha says “this place was elegant, rustic, vintage, & a piece of history.”  But it was the story of why it was built  they loved the most.  The star in the entry was the icing on the cake!

Rustic chic, vintage, with a bit of baseball thrown in for good measure. That was the theme of the day.  A Rose in Bloom of Fort Worth handled the red, white & blue flowers, as well as day of coordinating.  Marsha told us that even with their crazy, demanding family & friends, the folks at A Rose in Bloom managed to pull off amazing decorations, flowers, and kept  the night rolling in the right direction, saying “they were amazing at catering to our vision!”

The bride found her dress at Circle Park Bridal in Addison.  It was a Madeline Gardner design, fitting nicely into the rustic, vintage theme.  Marsha elected to wear boots from Black Star Boots of Fort Worth.  After all, you can’t have a rustic Texas themed wedding & not wear boots!

The necklace she wore was given to her by her mother’s stepmother, it had been in the family for almost 100 years!!  The bracelet was a gift from Kevin, who found it at a local antique shop.  The earrings were borrowed from Marsha’s aunt on her father’s side.

Hair & makeup was done by Halo Hair Salon in Fort Worth, and they did a super job!

Bridesmaids wore lace dresses from David’s Bridal, along with their boots.  While the groomsmen wore jeans, vest & button up shirts from Men’s Wearhouse, with boots.  Marsha & Kevin told us that each & every one of the wedding party was family, either by blood, or friendship.  They were chosen because the couple wanted to celebrate the close ties & family values they cherish.

In keeping with the rustic, vintage & country theme, the ceremony was held outside on the beautifully landscaped grounds of Oak Knoll Ranch.  While July in Texas can be hot, the party that followed was hotter!!  It all started with a very special, one of a kind wedding favor for all the guests!  Since Marsha & Kevin like to cook, they came up with the idea of Soup in a Mason jar,  and called it “Shotts’ Texas Two Step”!  Wanting to share a little bit of them, the added the recipe to the back of the program, and so far, nothing but rave reviews!!

The wedding cake was from Creative Cakes by Monica.  Each layer had it’s own flavor, wrapped in butter cream frosting, with burlap, lace & ribbon on 2 layers, and red & blue stars on the other 2 layers.

Invitations were created by Scrappy Seahorse Designs, & they did  a wonderful job of adjusting to their style.  The couple created the programs, baseball ticket seating assignments, and the tags for the  wedding favors.

Mr Sean Greeley of DJ Hefty Entertainment  made sure there was plenty of the right music for all to enjoy!  From before the ceremony, all the way through the evening, he helped to move the crowd, and did an amazing job.

Food was provided by Smokin’  Good BBQ out of Hurst, TX.  There was brisket, sausage, chicken, pulled pork, and all the fixin’s!  Marsha says it’s  some of the best  potato salad she’s ever had!  They chose it because most of the family was from outside of Texas, and they wanted to provide a  true Texas Country BBQ.  The couple says that Jaime is a great friend to them, and they knew he & Walter would go above & beyond to help make their day one of the greatest.

When we asked Marsha & Kevin what the most memorable moment of the day was, they responded by saying “being able to enjoy OUR DAY with some of our closest family & friends.  We all put a lot of love into each other, our family & friends, as well as our big day, and to see it all come together under one roof was the most amazing sight!  We enjoyed every minute!”

So then it was off to San Antonio & Fredericksburg for a mini get-a-way, and to absorb more Texas history. But before they left, they told us

“Everyone that helped bring Our day together we consider Family!  Whether we’ve known them for 10 years or 6 months, we will always be there for those that are there for us!”

I have to say the journey we took with Marsha & Kevin was one of the best we’ve had!  I truly believe we’ve made friends for life!  Congrats!

Paschal Jazz Band

Did you know that Jim was a Paschal High School alum?  Yep, we  are both Fort Worth natives, and proud of it.  So when Jim heard the Paschal Jazz Band was going to give a free concert in Burnett Park, he had to go!  The 25 piece Jazz Ensemble along with legendary Grammy winning jazz trumpeter & Paschal alum John Thomas took the stage around 7 PM on June 30th.  This was just days  before the band took off for the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland!   The first Texas high school to do so in the last 18 years.  What an accomplishment!  Congrats to all the students & the band directors on such a prestigious honor!

Brittany & Rickey~Country wedding

Brittany & Rickey wanted a country wedding, something rustic. A little more that a backyard wedding, but not quite as fancy as an indoor setting.  The Corral in Wills Point was an exact fit.  Brittan & her mom actually went to a wedding sale there.  As soon as they pulled onto the property, it was instant love!  From the house to the barn, it was just enough country for her country wedding.

There’s a story behind Brittany’s dress for country wedding.  It came from David’s  Bridal in Mesquite.  It was actually the first dress she tried on. When her mom started to cry, Brittany just thought that was a normal thing for a mom to do, you know, get all sappy!  Well, here’s the thing, they kept shopping, and no more tears.  At some point, they ended up back at David’s Bridal again.  After trying on anywhere between 15 to 20 dresses, no tears mind you, she asked them to bring that very first dress to try again, just for grins.  You guessed it, mom was in tears again!  This just had to be “THE DRESS”.  It fit perfectly with the country wedding theme, and fit Brittany far better than any others she had tried.

No shoes for Brittany, she wanted boots, after all, it’s a country wedding.  She found the perfect pair on the top shelf (Brittany is vertically challenged, like me) at Cavender’s one day.  Of course they were the wrong size, and needed to be ordered.  They are turquoise Twisted X boots.  She got them almost a year prior to the wedding,  which allowed plenty of time to be broken in.

The jewelry was handmade by her close friend Christina Vrba as a wedding gift.  Christina customized a necklace,  bracelet & earrings just for Brittany!

The girls makeup was done by Kristi & Megan from Ulta in Rockwall.  Hair was done by Alma Pope of Rockwall.  She is a long time friend & hairdresser of the bride.  She did all the bridesmaids, plus Brittany’s mom & nana.

In keeping with a country wedding, (aside from the fact that Rickey doesn’t own a pair of slacks!!) they opted for the guys in jeans, all wearing the same shirt.  It was an Ariat shirt from Cavender’s.  Rickey added a brown on black paisley vest by Scully.  They all wore cowboy hats to complete the ensemble.

The flowers were done by Billie Kasper at Flower Basket in Forney.  She used cayenne roses, mini sunflowers for contrast, craspedia & red hypericum berries for the “wildflower” look.  The  bridesmaids bouquets were mini sunflowers, and the guys boutonnieres were in shotgun shells (at the groom’s request)!!

Wedding favors were koozies made by Numo Manufacturing in Kaufman.  They were real tree camo, which fit Rickey’s personality & they had turquoise lettering which was Brittany’s color. They wanted all the guests to be able to keep it, and remember their wedding!

Oh, the cakes!  By Renaissance Cakes in Kaufman,  they were simply amazing! The bride’s cake was 4 tiered with burlap & lace around each layer.  Their flavors were Mexican Vanilla with Apple Pie filling, Italian Cream with cream cheese filling, and Spice Cake with Apple Pie filling (Brittany’s favorite!).  Rickey’s goom’s cake was designed to look like a Copenhagen can.  The detail on this cake was stunning, and it was chocolate (of course!).

Since it was a country wedding, it made perfect sense to have BBQ!  And that was made better by Rickey’s dad being the grillmaster!  Yup, he smoked it all night, thenight  before the wedding.  There was potato salad, cole slaw & baked beans to complete the meal.  Nothing better than good old Texas BBQ!

Piazza in the Village Wedding

Lauren & Aaron selected Piazza in the Village chapel & Grand Ballroom as the location for their March 27, 2015 wedding.  The reason?  It’s a beautiful venue and everyone there was just great!  Lauren’s vision for her wedding was vintage elegant, and the decor of Piazza in the Village was a perfect fit.

Lauren’s dress was from David’s Bridal, and it was the perfect fit for an elegant vintage wedding.  Her shoes came from DSW, and they were BCBG, nude with gold sparkles on the tips.  Lauren’s earrings were from her grandmother.  The flower bracelet came from David’s Bridal, and the pearl bracelet is by Honora.

Lauren’s stylist, Kimberly (ShuggShack) did all the girls hair, including Lauren, mom & grandmother!

The flowers fit right into the vintage theme, with shades of pink, ivory & champagne.  Florist Kate Foley really outdid herself with Lauren’s bouquet, absolutely stunning.

Aaron & his men were not outdone by the ladies whatsoever.  In Vera Wang tuxes with ivory shirts, pink vests & ties for the groomsmen, and an ivory vest & tie for Aaron, all from Mens Wearhouse.

Invitations & Save the Dates were from minted.com.  They were Antique Lines invitations in pink & gold,  to fit the theme.

The cakes were simply amazing.  Opulent Cakes created a bride’s cake in white chocolate with a raspberry filling, while the groom’s cake was all chocolate with chocolate filling.

Piazza in the Village catered the dinner, which consisted of the house salad, filet mignon or herb crusted chicken with asparagus & mashed potatoes.

The honeymoon was in San Diego, where they stayed at the historical Hotel Del Coronado!  It was 5 days of perfect weather in a beautiful place to relive memories of a wonderful day.  Lauren told us one of her most memorable moments was just before she walked down the aisle.  She was nervous, anxious and excited, all at once, to finally be able to marry the man of her dreams.

We just want to say congrats to a wonderful couple, and thank you for choosing us to photograph your wedding!

Lauren & Josh ~ Poetry Springs

Lauren & Josh selected Poetry Springs as their wedding venue. They were so impressed with the venue, it was the only one they viewed!  The look & feel of the facility just fit their vision.  While they had no particular theme in mind, Tiffany Blue with a hint of Disney (Lauren’s obsession) were the cornerstones of the day.

Poetry Springs wedding, PoetrySpringsweddingphotographer,PoetryS

Lauren’s dress is an Oleg Cassini strapless fit & flare from David’s Bridal.  Her shoes came from the Betsey Johnson collection at Dillards.  She also found her tear drop earrings & necklace at Dillards as well.  Her hair was done a friend of Lauren’s mom, while her makeup was by a friend of her own.  All the bridesmaids were responsible for their own hair & makeup.

The guys suits were from Perry Ellis.  They actually stumbled upon a suit that was exactly what they wanted, & it was 70% off!  So they each purchased their attire, and have it to use again!  How cool is that?

Poetry Springs wedding, PoetrySpringsweddingphotographer,PoetryS

Lauren’s bouquet was white roses with blue & white calla lilies, while the bridesmaids were simple white roses. The guys wore a single calla lily.

Babe’s Chicken handled the catering.  It’s one of their favorites (mine, too!).  A friend of the family loaned them a margarita machine, and the  party was on!

Delicious Cakes of Addison made the cakes.  The wedding cake flavor was pink champagne and the groom’s cake was khaula.

For wedding favors, they had a caricature artist and a photo booth, along with hershey’s kisses to take home.

The honeymoon was in paradise.  Leaving the monday after, they flew to Sandals Emerald Bay Resort, in Great Exuma, Bahamas (see, I told you paradise).  Both said it was the best week ever, and they can’t wait to return.

While the day was filled with special moments, Lauren & Josh said the best part was being surrounded by family & friends,  and the day ended with them being married.  Congrats!!!
